The Town of Garner will participate for the first time ever in National Public Lands Day on Saturday, Sept. 24 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Volunteers will meet at White Deer Park. Projects will include removal of invasive plants, trail maintenance and litter pickup.

On Saturday, Oct. 1, the Town is sponsoring the Fall 2011 Garner Litter Sweep and N.C. Big Sweep. The Town is encouraging all members of the community, especially civic groups and churches, to participate. If a group has already adopted a street or stream, members are encouraged to come and clean their assigned areas on Oct. 1.

Volunteers who don’t already have an assigned street or waterway will be grouped and assigned an area the day of the event. All volunteers will be provided bags and vests to wear during the cleanup and given a T-shirt for participating. The Town’s Public Works Department will pick up the bags of litter after the event.

We encourage the residents of Garner to show Garner Pride, come have fun, meet people and help out.
