Garner Easter Egg Hunt

Darren Kincaid - Wednesday, March 24, 2010

Now that Spring is here, my favorite holiday is just around the corner. Easter is in 11 days! Time for chocolate bunnies, baskets, jelly beans and more!

The Garner, NC annual Egg Hunt & Kite Fly at Lake Benson Park is this upcoming weekend. This huge community event will start  at 10:00 a.m.

There will be tons of activities for kids and an Easter Bunny for photos! Children 8 & under will be divided into three age groups (2 & under, 3-5, 6-8) to hunt for candy eggs and prizes.

The egg hunt will begin at 12 noon. Don’t forget to bring your own basket!

Are any of our residents planning to attend? Bring your camera and send us your pics. We’d love to post some of your photos to our blog!

The Health Benefits of Walking

Darren Kincaid - Friday, March 19, 2010
I am so glad Spring will be here this weekend, however, I will miss my cold weather excuse to stay-indoors and not exercise.

One way to get in exercise and enjoy the day is to go walking! Did you know that walking is one of the best forms of exercise that you can do? Not only is it low impact, but it is also a great way to ease into an exercise program. On top of all of that, walking can reduce your blood pressure, raise your “good” cholesterol and lower your “bad” cholesterol. What’s the benefit of this? You guessed it- WEIGHT LOSS!

I think I’ll go walking this evening, what about you?

Happy St. Patrick’s Day Abberly Place

Darren Kincaid - Wednesday, March 17, 2010

Happy St. Patrick’s Day to all of our residents! Hope you have a fun and fantastic day! What are your plans for the evening?

We’re right off the coat-tails of our Abberly Idol singing contest. Congrats to our winner Kameela!!

I found this video featuring an Irish Dance group. They are amazing and the music will surely put you in the spirit of today’s holiday. Maybe we should make this our next competition!

Wear Your Green!

Darren Kincaid - Friday, March 12, 2010

There will surely be sea of green this weekend in downtown Raleigh for an early celebration of the Luck of the Irish.

The 2010 Raleigh St. Patrick’s Day Parade will start at noon on Wilmington St. and it will end at Moore Square.

When the Parade is over the Wearin’ ‘O the Green festival will begin! The Festival is held at the end of the parade route.

It’s sure to be a ton of fun for the whole family. There will be live music and dancing. In addition, there will be a wide variety of vendor booths: Irish Organizations, Irish jewelry and other trinkets, food vendors, children’s games and activities.

If any of our residents at Abberly Place attend bring your camera and share your photos on our Facebook Fan Page. We’d love to see our wall covered in green next week!

A Real-Life Wonderland

Darren Kincaid - Thursday, March 11, 2010
Tim Burton’s new Disney  movie Alice in Wonderland broke all sorts of box office records this weekend. It’s amazing!  I loved it and and would recommend seeing it in a 3D IMAX theatre for the full effect.

I found an odd fact. Did you know that there is a actually a disorder called Alice in Wonderland Syndrome?

It’s a  rare form of migraine and Alice in Wonderland Syndrome causes people to see their own bodies or those of others or everyday objects askew. Only about 300 people in the US have been diagnosed.

Weird. It’s like how Alice sees things in the crazed world she dreams up down the rabbit hole.

Super Bowl Ads

Darren Kincaid - Sunday, February 07, 2010
Besides the game and the great yummy food at the party, Super Bowl is also best known for its top-notch commercials. Retailers and national brands pay lots of money for those commercials and we all expect them to be worth sticking around for during the game breaks.

This year’s Super Bowl ads did not disappoint. There were lots of hilarious ones and some that were heart-felt. Did you see the Snicker’s one with Betty White? That one was my favorite. There were also some really bad choices, like the Career Builder commercial. Men in tighty-whiteys should not be on TV in my opinion.

What were your favorite commercials?

If you happen to miss the Super Bowl, you can go here to see all the best and worst ads.

Holtz leaving ECU

Darren Kincaid - Thursday, January 14, 2010
Although not yet confirmed, there are strong rumors that East Carolina Coach, Skip Hotlz, will be leaving the school to coach at the University of South Florida in Tampa.

A formal announcement is expected later this afternoon.

Holtz, is the son of famed Notre Dame coach, Lou Holtz.

The South Florida position is open because former coach, Jim Leavitt, was firedon January 8th for allegedly striking a player.

With ECU without a coach, how do you think they’ll make it through recruiting season? For the latest info check here.
