Do you have a few items in your closet that are feeling neglected? Of course, clearing out garments for charity is a great idea, but if you wanted to give them a second chance before saying good-bye, and having fun in the bargain, perhaps you should have a Style Swap. While my mom and I swap the same things back and forth all the time, I did attend a Style Swap once, and it was both fun AND I came home with a few new pieces for my wardrobe.
Many mothers already engage in a demi-swap, where they pass on now-too-small children’s clothing to friends needing those sizes for their own kids. But you can just as easily trade a size 12 dress for a size 10 trench coat or a size 8 pair of jeans if you’re losing weight, or find some nice maternity pieces for a future pregnancy. Between different style tastes, sizes and seasons, there are a lot of different possibilities to be had. Those clothes without a home at the end of the swap will still go to charity, but you’ve saved yourself the expense of a shopping trip, too! Make it a party with finger foods and a glass of wine, and you’ve got a great time for a Saturday afternoon!
If you’re interested in the swapping, but maybe prefer it to be a more on-the-side, personal activity, you can still swap online at Swapstyle.
Personally, I think I prefer the social version myself, even if I am not the same size as many of my friends.
