The North Carolina tax free weekend may be the perfect time to explore some of the local shops in the Raleigh area and buy from independent stores. The tax free weekend for general merchandise is happening on August 3-5, and applies to the following items:
- Clothing, footwear, and school supplies under $100
- Sports and recreation equipment under $50
- Computers under $3,500
- Computer equipment under $250
Sales tax in North Carolina is 5.7%, so this could add up to quite a savings. After all, the sales tax plus any local sales tax, if applicable - is what you'd be saving during the sales tax holiday. The tax free holiday can help you out if you need to shop for back-to-school or if you need items for your apartment.
