International Festival of Raleigh featuring music, dance, art and more from around the world, runs Friday to Sunday at the Raleigh Convention Center. This is a big event with lots of opportunities to learn about other cultures. The event includes Sophia’s Corner for kids with face painting, storytelling, games and other activities. On Sunday, October 6, Chapel Hill’s Festifall Arts Festival will run noon to 6 p.m. along West Franklin Street in downtown Chapel Hill. The free festival, now in its 41st year, offers an artist’s market, hands-on activities, music and more. At the Ackland Art Museum’s Art on the Move pop up exhibit, visitors will be encouraged to create their own moving sculptures on their bikes, wagons or carts. The N.C. Symphony’s Instrument Zoo will be on hand. So will a tie dye bus, face painting, spin art and a graffiti art demonstration. New this year: The Chapel Hill Public Library will bring its Digital Bookmobile. Find it outside the Orange County Visitors Center. The one-of-a-kind traveling exhibit is a high-tech update of the old school bookmobile.
Chapel Hill’s annual celebration offers a diverse artist market, live entertainment for all ages, hands-on activities, and local food. Chapel Hill residents and people from neighboring communities will have the opportunity to explore our booming local art scene supporting the artists that make our communities and local economy vibrant. Selected artists repesenting all types of media will be a part of this well-publicized annual event celebrating the cultural arts in downtown Chapel Hill.
Over 15,000 local and visiting attendees are entertained throughout the day with live music and the best that the local art scene has to offer accompanied by participatory interactive art and dance activities.
