Community Bulletin Board

We do have an area on our website where you can list items you want to sell. If you look under resources on AbberlyPlace.com, you will see a drop down screen that will say Community Bulletin Board. From here you can list items that you are wanting to selling (including us…we have some fantastic pieces that we have removed from our models that are practically brand new).

There is a place where you can post job opportunities, events through the area, etc. It is free and we will publicize the items for you. Take advantage of this service we offer. We want to make sure that we are constantly working on things that will make life easier for you. If you have any suggestions, feel free to let us know.

April Fools' Day

We all know that April Fools' Day, or All Fools' Day, is the first day of April. No one knows where the custom began, but some historians believe it started in France. They had a New Year's festival that was celebrated from March 25 to April 1, and they would then exchange gifts. But, later, King James IV changed the holiday to January 1 for New Years. The people that still celebrated it April 1 were called 'April fish' and sent mock presents.

Pool season

Pool season is here whether we are ready for it or not! Even though it may still be cold outside, warm weather is right away the corner. Our pools will be opening up in April and the date is yet determined. We have to wait for the Wake County Inspectors to come out to inspect the pools before we can open them. Please keep in mind that there are pool rules that have to be followed.

Some, but not all rules are:

  1. No pets allowed inside the pool or the pool deck areas.
  2. No more than 2 guests at a time allowed per apartment
  3. No glass containers of any kind allowed in the pool areas
  4. No horseplay or rough housing allowed
  5. No one allowed inside the pool areas before 10:00 a.m. and after 10:00 p.m.

Please let us know if you have any questions about any of the Pool Rules.

Get Healthy

With pool season being here, there is no better time then now to start healthy habits and have a healthier lifestyle. Our company, HHHunt has recently started The Biggest Loser Contest and also Weekly Challenges that we will participate here. Abberly Place Walk

We need your feedback! Each year, Abberly Place participates in some sort of charity event. This year, we were thinking about getting our residents together to do a walk/run right here in our community. We could walk/run around Abberly Place and in the White Oak Area. We would just do 1-3 miles. Whoever decided to participate would pay a small entry fee and they would receive a T-Shit. The rest of the money would go to a charity. We could pick 3 different charities and let you all vote on the charity we decide to use. Please call or email us if this is something that you would be interested in. Our goal would be to do this fall so that we will have time to plan everything. This not only would be fun, but it would be for a great cause!

Resident Activity Center

Our resident activity has recently been painted (same colors) and it looks amazing! Our fitness center in phase 2 has also received a facelift. We have had equipment repaired and benches recovered. We really appreciate your continued patience during this process. We want both fitness centers to look nice and fresh for all of our active residents!

Also, our fireplace at the phase 2 pool is up a running. This has been an ongoing project because we wanted to make sure that it was done right, and we think that you will be very happy with the finished product. If you have time, go by and check it out while we are still having some cooler nights.

NCAA Championship Game

Who still has a good bracket? If you answered yes, then you are doing a lot better then most. There are several of the higher ranked teams that are not even going to the sweet 16, and that also includes our local schools here in North Carolina. Who would have thought that Duke would lose to Mercer or Stanford would beat Kansas?

Syracuse loses to Dayton and Wichita State loses their first game of the season to Kentucky. You still have number one seeds Florida, Virginia, and Arizona who could win it all, but with the way things have been going, it is only a mater of time before the next upset. The championship game will be held on Monday, April 7th and if you team is still in it, lucky you and hopefully they will be playing on April 7th!

We still have about 6 brackets from our March Madness Party that are looking pretty decent…they are not perfect of course, but one will be good enough to win a $25 gift card to Target. Will it be you?

Spring Hours

Please keep in mind that our office will be closed on Friday, April 18th and on Sunday, April 20th. If you have maintenance emergency, there will be someone on call to handle that for you. We will be here that Saturday, the 19th, and on Monday the 21st.

Broccoli and Bacon Salad

This is a picnic favorite and with warmer weather and cookouts approaching, this would be a quick, easy, and healthy

Makes: 6 servings, 1 scant cup each
Active Time: 20 minutes
Total Time: 20 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup low-fat mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup reduced-fat sour cream
  • 2 teaspoons cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sugar (substitute with Splenda or Sweet and Low)
  • 4 cups finely chopped broccoli crowns
  • 3 slices cooked bacon, crumbled
  • 3 tablespoons dried cranberries
  • Freshly ground pepper , to taste

Preparation

  1. Whisk garlic, mayonnaise, sour cream, vinegar and sugar in a large bowl. Add broccoli, water chestnuts, bacon, cranberries and pepper; stir to coat with the dressing.

Tips & Notes

  • Make Ahead Tip: Cover and refrigerate for up to 1 day.
  • Tip: Most supermarkets sell broccoli crowns, which are the tops of the bunches, with the stalks cut off. Although crowns are more expensive than entire bunches, they are convenient and there is considerably less waste. Nutrition

Pick Up The Poop

As many of you know, this has been an ongoing issue for months now. We have a beautiful community and we want to keep it that way. There are piles and piles of pet waste through out the community where irresponsible pet owners do not clean up after their pet. Please keep in mind, this is not an option. You can either do what you are supposed to do, or you can remove your pet from your apartment.

We provide pet stations through out the community as a courtesy. We do have 600 apartments here and a large percentage of our residents do own a dog…maybe even two. With that being said, there is a chance that we could run out of bags. This should not happen often, but it does happen. With that being said, it is still your responsibility to clean up after your pet. To be safe, you may want to tie a few extra bags to your leash so that you will have a bag if the pet station is empty. We also wanted to point out that more then half of our staff live here on site.

You may think that our office is closed, but that does not mean our eyes do not work…keep that in mind!! We also want to encourage residents to “tattle” as some have put it. If you see someone not picking up after their pet, please call our office to let us know. If you have your phone, take a picture. Your reward, to have clean grounds to enjoy. As the weather gets nice and the grass gets greener, everyone will be out more enjoying the weather, pet owner or not.

We do charge $25 to those that are caught not cleaning up after their pet. We have increased that charge and it is now $50. If you are caught more then once, this can result in removal of your pet. We will also be charging $50 to those who do not put their dogs on a leash. This is not only a rule, it is actually the law for the Town of Garner. If we all work together , we can get this under control and manage it better going forward…we just need your help!

Rent vs. Buying

In today's economy, with unpredictable lay offs and relocations, people are choosing to rent housing versus buying a home. Renting offers short term obligation for those people who are uncertain what their financial standing will be in the near future.

If your company decides to downsize or relocate, you will not be locked into a 30 year mortgage. Most apartment communities offer flexible lease terms and options to break a contract if something unfortunate, like a job loss, happens.

Also, with renting an apartment, you will get the convenience of onsite amenities and benefits such as fitness centers, swimming pools, business centers and 24 hour maintenance. You will never have to replace an appliance or do any home repairs. This saves time and money.
