Community Bulletin Board

We do have an area on our website where you can list items you want to sell. If you look under resources on AbberlyPlace.com, you will see a drop down screen that will say Community Bulletin Board. From here you can list items that you are wanting to selling (including us…we have some fantastic pieces that we have removed from our models that are practically brand new).

There is a place where you can post job opportunities, events through the area, etc. It is free and we will publicize the items for you. Take advantage of this service we offer. We want to make sure that we are constantly working on things that will make life easier for you. If you have any suggestions, feel free to let us know.

Tubs of Love

Abberly Place needs your help! We have decided to participate in a charity to help out The Raleigh Rescue Mission. The name of the charity event that we have decided to do is Tubs of Love. We will be purchasing 2 large tubs and we want you guys to help us fill them. Each tub will have a theme/category. We will be doing a Hygiene Tub and a Paper Goods Tub. For the Hygiene Tub, we are asking that you bring in things such as towels, washcloths, soaps, shampoos, body wash, disposable shavers, Q Tips, Hair Brushes, toothpaste/toothbrushes, feminine hygiene products, and things of this nature. The name brand does not matter.

As far as the Paper Goods Tub goes, we are asking that you bring in things such as toilet paper, paper towels, paper plates, napkins, trash bags, coffee filters, Kleenex, paper cups, and things of this nature. Once again, the name brand does not matter and the amount that you donate does not matter. Anything that you decide to donate will be greatly appreciated. We are hoping that with your help, this event will be successful. Our goal is to fill two tubs, but if we get enough items we would love to send in more!

We are asking if you could have your items in no later then August 22nd. This way our staff can deliver the tubs to the Raleigh Rescue Mission on that Saturday, 23rd. You can bring your items into our office anytime during business hours. If you have any questions about this event then please let us know!

Rent vs. Buying

The Argument Against Home Ownership
By James Surowiecki
The New Yorker

Americans may disagree about nearly everything, but few contest the idea that owning your home is a good thing. Paeans to homeownership are a commonplace for American politicians, and, since the nineteen-thirties, public policy has been designed to make home buying cheaper and easier. Homeownership, the argument goes, has tremendous social benefits, stabilizing neighborhoods and making people more willing to invest in their communities.

And it has economic benefits, too, serving as a forced-savings program that allows people to leverage their incomes and build wealth. Homeownership “provides financial security for families,” Mel Martinez, the former H.U.D. Secretary, has said, and it “generates economic strength that fuels the entire nation.”

That never seemed more true than in the years from 1994 to 2005, when the percentage of Americans who own homes rose by almost ten per cent, and the amount of wealth tied up in property soared. But our generation of home owning has blinded us to the fact that, along with the benefits, it has some very real costs — costs that only get bigger as the ranks of homeowners swell. The housing boom undoubtedly helped the economy’s growth rate and made lots of first-time home buyers happy. Unfortunately, it may also end up prolonging and deepening the current downturn.

Breezeway Pressure Washing

Our Service Team will be pressure washing breezeways in the following buildings in August. We pressure wash the breezeways and stairwells only. Patios and decks are not including in this routine cleaning.

If you would like to clean your patio or deck area, we ask that you use a broom and a damp cloth with mild cleaning solution. Please do not dump water or cleaning products on the deck if you live on the upper levels. We do not want your below neighbors to be inconvenienced with water on their belongings.

On the day that your breezeway is scheduled to be cleaned, we ask that you remove anything outside your front door that you do not want to get wet.

Also, it is a good idea to place a towel at the base of your door just inside to keep water from forming a puddle inside. Thanks to all of you for helping us keep Abberly beautiful!
