Community Bulletin Board

We do have an area on our website where you can list items you want to sell. If you look under resources on AbberlyPlace.com, you will see a drop down screen that will say Community Bulletin Board. From here you can list items that you are wanting to selling (including us…we have some fantastic pieces that we have removed from our models that are practically brand new).

There is a place where you can post job opportunities, events through the area, etc. It is free and we will publicize the items for you. Take advantage of this service we offer. We want to make sure that we are constantly working on things that will make life easier for you. If you have any suggestions, feel free to let us know.

Lake Benson’s July 4th Celebration

Lake Benson will have their Independence Day Celebration on July 3rd at Lake Benson Park here in Garner. There are several activities for the whole family. This is known as one of the best firework shows in the Triangle, so you do not want to miss it! For more information visit www.garnernc.gov/Events.aspx.

July 4th / Independence Day

The Declaration of Independence

We celebrate American Independence Day on the Fourth of July every year. We think of July 4, 1776, as a day that represents the Declaration of

Independence and the birth of the United States of America as an independent nation.

But July 4, 1776 wasn't the day that the Continental Congress decided to declare independence (they did that on July 2, 1776).

It wasn’t the day we started the American Revolution either (that had happened back in April 1775).

And it wasn't the day Thomas Jefferson wrote the first draft of the Declaration of Independence (that was in June 1776). Or the date on which the Declaration was delivered to Great Britain (that didn't happen until November 1776). Or the date it was signed (that was August 2, 1776).

Poolside Relaxing

We are happy to see all of our residents enjoying the warm weather and the pools at Abberly. It’s always a popular spot for the summer. We want to remind you that if you chose to use the grills, please respect others by cleaning off the cooking surface for the next person.

Also, there are pool rules posted at each pool and we ask that you take time to read them and abide by them.

Some of the rules that we feel need to be addressed directly are:

  • NO GLASS OF ANY KIND INSIDE THE POOL AREAS - We are still having problems with people following this rule. If the Wake County Inspector shows up to do a surprise inspection and he finds someone with glass, he could CLOSE THE POOL FOR THE REST OF THE SUMMER!
  • No more than 2 guests (per apartment) at the pool or any of the amenities.
  • No outside music devices, such as radios, are allowed. We have music playing at the pools that is appropriate for all ages so that everyone can enjoy it. IPods and MPs players are fine with ear buds.
  • No one under the age of 16 is allowed at the pools without an adult.
  • No corn hole boards or other games are allowed inside the pool gates.
  • No throwing items that could hit or hurt someone in the pool areas.

Some other rules but not all are:

  • No pets allowed inside the pool or the pool deck areas.
  • No horseplay or running in the pool area.
  • No one allowed inside the pool areas before 10:00 a.m. and after 10:00 p.m. and the pools are closed on Mondays (most of the day) for cleaning and treatment.

Please let us know if you have any questions about any of the Pool Rules.

Just because you live in an apartment home, does not mean that you can not grow and care for your own flowers. You can spunk up your patio/balcony with a pop of color by having potted plants and flowers. You can also do hanging baskets. One of the most popular potted flowers are Petunias. They are beautiful and easy to car for.

Botanical name: Petunia
Plant type: Flower
Sun exposure: Full Sun
Flower color: Red, Pink, Yellow,
Purple, White
Bloom time: Spring, Summer, Fall

You can grow petunias from seeds, but it is easier to grow them from transplants. If you are going to grow from seeds, start them indoors 10 to 12 weeks before you want to set them outside. Petunia seeds are very small and needs lots of light in order to germinate. Remember to water them. When the plants have three leaves, you can plant them outside.

It's best to buy transplants and plant them in light, well-drained soil in full sun after the last spring frost. Petunias can grow in partial shade, but they will have fewer flowers. It's better if the plants have shelter from the wind.

Space the plants about 1 foot apart.

If you're planting petunias in containers, use a soil-less mix.

Petunias are tolerant of heat so you don't have to water them regularly. A thorough watering once a week should be sufficient (unless there are prolonged periods of drought in your area). The spreading types and those in containers require more frequent watering though.

Fertilize your plants monthly to ensure good growth. Double-flowered cultivars like a biweekly dose of fertilizer.

Remove faded/dead flowers to prolong blooming

Please make sure that if you do put potted plants outside that you have a plate underneath so the dirt does not fall onto the patio below yours.

Holiday Office Hours

Our office will be closed on Friday, July 4th. We hope that you all enjoy your time off. Our office will reopen on Saturday at normal operating hours.

Summer Corn and Tomato Pasta

At every party there seems to be a star at the dessert table—and this creamy layered fruit bowl mixed with vanilla pudding will be it.

  • Salt
  • 1 pound bow-tie pasta
  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • 2 garlic cloves, smashed
  • 1 pint cherry tomatoes
  • 3 ears fresh corn, kernels cut off
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, torn into pieces

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the pasta until al dente; drain.
  2. Meanwhile, in a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the garlic and tomatoes and cook, stirring occasionally, until the tomatoes are softened, about 5 minutes. Stir in the corn, raise the heat slightly and cook until the corn is heated through and golden, about 5 minutes. Season to taste with salt.
  3. Add the vegetables, butter and basil to the pasta and toss.

Rent vs. Buying

In today's economy, with unpredictable lay offs and relocations, people are choosing to rent housing versus buying a home. Renting offers short term obligation for those people who are uncertain what their financial standing will be in the near future.

If your company decides to downsize or relocate, you will not be locked into a 30 year mortgage. Most apartment communities offer flexible lease terms and options to break a contract if something unfortunate, like a job loss, happens.

Also, with renting an apartment, you will get the convenience of onsite amenities and benefits such as fitness centers, swimming pools, business centers and 24 hour maintenance. You will never have to replace an appliance or do any home repairs. This saves time and money.

We are happy that you all have decided to rent with Abberly for at least a little while and hope that you all will stay for a long time to come!
