Garner Volunteer Fire and Rescue will be hosting their annual Fireman’s Day event on Oct. 2, drawing hundreds of residents for a day of music, food, a parade of Firetrucks, a controlled burn, cash lotto for the adults, and fun and games for the kids. You will not want to miss this event so come out and join all the fun. This event will last from 11:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. The parade will begin at 2:00. As disappointed as many of you may be, our pool will officially be closing on October 31st. If you are polar bear and love swimming the in the freezing water (the water is already cold with the cooler nights we have had) then you may want to get a few laps in before the end of the month. Remember, our pool deck is open year round so you are still more then welcome to enjoy nicer days and use the grills during the pool hours.
Fall is officially here and there is no better place to be the Kens Korny Corn Maze! This is a place that the whole family can enjoy and it is right here in Garner.
They have corn tunnels, corn mazes, concessions, a corn crib, monster trucks and tractors, hay rides, pumpkins, and much more. They even have special “haunted” events towards the end of October. Admission is $12.00 for 6 and up and $6 for the ages 3-5. Anyone under the age of 3 is free with a paid adult. Kens Korny Corn Maze is located at 3175 Benson Road (HWY 50) in Garner. They have the entertainment, you just need to bring it!
Breezeway Pressure Washing
Our Service Team will be pressure washing breezeways in the following buildings in October. We pressure wash the breezeways and stairwells only. Patios and decks are not including in this routine cleaning.
If you would like to clean your patio or deck area, we ask that you use a broom and a damp cloth with mild cleaning solution. Please do not dump water or cleaning products on the deck if you live on the upper levels. We do not want your below neighbors to be inconvenienced with water on their belongings.
On the day that your breezeway is scheduled to be cleaned, we ask that you remove anything outside your front door that you do not want to get wet.
Also, it is a good idea to place a towel at the base of your door just inside to keep water from forming a puddle inside. Thanks to all of you for helping us keep Abberly beautiful!

Rent vs. Buying
In today's economy, with unpredictable lay offs and relocations, people are choosing to rent housing versus buying a home. Renting offers short term obligation for those people who are uncertain what their financial standing will be in the near future.
If your company decides to downsize or relocate, you will not be locked into a 30 year mortgage. Most apartment communities offer flexible lease terms and options to break a contract if something unfortunate, like a job loss, happens.
Also, with renting an apartment, you will get the convenience of onsite amenities and benefits such as fitness centers, swimming pools, business centers and 24 hour maintenance. You will never have to replace an appliance or do any home repairs. This saves time and money.
We are happy that you all have decided to rent with Abberly for at least a little while and hope that you all will stay for a long time to come!

Costume and Pumpkin Carvin Party
It is that time again and we are so looking forward to this resident party. As many of you know, we have a costume contest each year. Anyone can participate in this event. We usually have more little one’s dress up, but adults can participate as well. If you decide to dress up, please keep in mind that this is a family event! We are changing things up a little this year. We are also going to do a pumpkin carving contest!!! We are asking that you purchase your own pumpkin and try to have it cleaned out before arriving to the party. This will save time and make the clean up a lot easier. We will provide the carving kits. We will also have a variety of different designs that you can carve. If you have something in mind, feel free to bring your own design! We will have a few extra pumpkins on hand for those of you that forget to bring one. You can do this individually or in a team. There will be a prize for the winner of the costume contest as well as the winner of the pumpkin carving contest. This event will be on Monday, October 26th at 6:00 pm at our resident activity center. We are looking forward to seeing you there!
Turn a new Leaf
A new season can inspire you to break away from unhealthy habits. Try these steps to get healthier:
~Identify a behavior you want to change and what triggers it. Being aware of it can help you stop.
~Keep track of your emotions when the habit is triggered.
~Find a way to distract yourself from the habit. For example, if you bite your nails or smoke, chewing gum might help distract your mouth.
NC State Fair
