Community Bulletin Board

We do have an area on our website where you can list items you want to sell. If you look under resources on AbberlyPlace.com, you will see a drop down screen that will say Community Bulletin Board. From here you can list items that you are wanting to selling (including us…we have some fantastic pieces that we have removed from our models that are practically brand new).

There is a place where you can post job opportunities, events through the area, etc. It is free and we will publicize the items for you. Take advantage of this service we offer. We want to make sure that we are constantly working on things that will make life easier for you. If you have any suggestions, feel free to let us know.

NC State Fair

The NC State Fair will be here on October 12-22. The NC State Fair is fun for the entire family. There will be games, rides, exhibits, crafts, face painting, and how could we forget the FOOD! This is an event that you will not want to miss. You can purchase tickets online or at the gate.

Turn a new Leaf

A new season can inspire you to break away from unhealthy habits. Try these steps to get healthier:

~Identify a behavior you want to change and what triggers it. Being aware of it can help you stop.
~Keep track of your emotions when the habit is triggered.
~Find a way to distract yourself from the habit. For example, if you bite your nails or smoke, chewing gum might help distract your mouth.

Air Filter Changes

The Service Team will be changing air filters in the buildings listed below during the month of October. Please make a note for yourselves if your building is on the list below. We ask that you kennel or secure all pets and please disarm alarm systems for that day.

We change your air filters so that your heating/air conditioning unit works more efficiently. Thank you for your cooperation.

Rent vs. Buying

In today's economy, with unpredictable lay offs and relocations, people are choosing to rent housing versus buying a home. Renting offers short term obligation for those people who are uncertain what their financial standing will be in the near future.

If your company decides to downsize or relocate, you will not be locked into a 30 year mortgage. Most apartment communities offer flexible lease terms and options to break a contract if something unfortunate, like a job loss, happens.

Also, with renting an apartment, you will get the convenience of onsite amenities and benefits such as fitness centers, swimming pools, business centers and 24 hour maintenance. You will never have to replace an appliance or do any home repairs. This saves time and money.

We are happy that you all have decided to rent with Abberly for at least a little while and hope that you all will stay for a long time to come!

Reminders When Turning on Heat

As cooler weather approaches we want to remind everyone to please test their heat to ensure that it is working properly. Allow the unit to run for a few minutes to make sure heat is blowing. During the first few minutes it is common that your apartment may have a burning smell. This is normal so do not be alarmed.

As disappointed as many of you may be, our pool will officially be closing on October 31st. If you are polar bear and love swimming the in the freezing water (the water is already cold with the cooler nights we have had along with all the rain) then you may want to get a few laps in before the end of the month. Remember, our pool deck is open year round so you are still more then welcome to enjoy nicer days and use the grills during the pool hours.

Slow-Cooker Chicken Tortilla Soup

  • 1 pound shredded, cooked chicken
  • 1 can (15 oz) whole peeled tomatoes, mashed
  • 1 can (10 oz) can enchilada sauce
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 can (4 oz) chopped green chili peppers
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups of water
  • 1 can (14.5-15 oz) chicken broth
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 (10 oz) package frozen corn
  • 1 tablespoon chopped cilantro
  • 1 package of tortilla strips

Place chicken, tomatoes, enchilada sauce, onion, green chiles, and garlic into a slow cooker. Pour in water and chicken broth, and season with cumin, chili powder, salt, pepper, and bay leaf. Stir in corn and cilantro. Cover, and cook on Low setting for 6 to 8 hours or on High setting for 3 to 4 hours. Sprinkle with tortilla chips and serve.

Breezeway Pressure Washing

Our Service Team will be pressure washing breezeways in the following buildings in October. We pressure wash the breezeways and stairwells only. Patios and decks are not including in this routine cleaning.

If you would like to clean your patio or deck area, we ask that you use a broom and a damp cloth with mild cleaning solution. Please do not dump water or cleaning products on the deck if you live on the upper levels. We do not want your below neighbors to be inconvenienced with water on their belongings.

On the day that your breezeway is scheduled to be cleaned, we ask that you remove anything outside your front door that you do not want to get wet.

Also, it is a good idea to place a towel at the base of your door just inside to keep water from forming a puddle inside. Thanks to all of you for helping us keep Abberly Place beautiful!
