Labor Day in the United States is a holiday celebrated on the first Monday in September. It is a celebration of the American Labor Movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of their country. Our office will be closed on September 1st for Labor Day. We will reopen on September 2nd. We hope that you all enjoy this holiday. It is the last one of summer which means fall is right around the corner!

Benson Mule Days
Have you ever been to Mule Day in Benson…have you ever even heard of it? Benson is only about 30 minutes from here and if you have never experienced Mule Day, it is something you should check out. It is a fun event for the entire family! Here is some information about Benson Mule Days.
2014 Mule Days
Benson, North Carolina celebrates Benson Mule Days® the 4th Saturday of September each year. The kickoff concert is held on Thursday night in the Benson Singing Grove (located in Downtown Benson).
This festival, which draws 40,000-50,000 people, is filled with family fun and activities for everyone young and old. The weekend is packed with rodeos, a mule pulling contest, arts and crafts, vendors, street dances, carnival rides, camping, parades, bluegrass shows and more.
The parade alone draws about 20,000 people. This festival is considered one of the largest festivals in North Carolina and the parade has hundreds of horses, mules, buggies, and unusual entries. Visitors come from as far away as Alaska, Germany and California.
Benson Mule Days® was inducted into the Library of Congress in Washington, DC in May of 2000. This festival was submitted by Congressman Bob Etheridge who attended the 50th celebration and served as a parade judge. The Chamber prepared information which will be on display at the Library of Congress and on their web-site.
A week prior to the beginning of this annual celebration a golf tournament is held at a local golf course, Reedy Creek. The tournament features a four man superball with prizes and a big cookout following a day of golfing. This is open to all levels of golfers except professionals

This is just a reminder that the compactor is area IS NOT MEANT FOR FURNITURE. If you have furniture items that you do not want, it is your responsibility to remove these items from your home and take them to the appropriate place (Goodwill, Salvation Army, and Dump)…
Abberly Place would not be one of those places. Not only is this an eyesore for our residents/future residents, we have to pay to have the items removed. Also, the cardboard bin is meant only for cardboard. Please do not lift the top of this for your trash… this is what that compactor is for.
We do have compactors in both phases and they are located behind the brick walls. If you follow the sidewalk, it will direct you right to it. We also have recycling in both phases.
We have recently decided to put separate bins out for the recycling. We were using the big green dumpster for recycling but people decided to put their trash there as well. This caused those areas to overflow with trash because people were not actually using the compactor for their trash.
We are hoping that the new recycling method and this friendly reminder will help keep our compactor areas clean and presentable. If you need help locating any of these areas, PLEASE contact our office.
We were not aware that we had so many NASCAR Drivers living at Abberly Place! We have received several calls/complaints about speeding cars this passed month.
Please make sure that you are cautious when driving through the community. There are always people out and about, walking pets, taking trash out, getting mail, etc. Speeding and not paying attention could lead to a very bad accident.
There are several blind spots that require extra attention such as in front of the RAC .There are stop signs there that many people don’t seem to abide by. There is also a very sharp curve as you turn right at the RAC to head down to the back side of Phase 2. This curve on Calico Creek is in front of the 200 building. It is very hard to see what is coming around the curve from either direction. Please use extra caution here.
Make sure that you are stopping at stop signs and staying on your side of the road. This will make the traffic flow go a lot better through the community and this will put pedestrians at ease. Thank you all for your cooperation. Safe driving!
Fall Is Here!
The first day of fall is September 22nd. This means that cooler temperatures will soon be here and we know that this makes many of you very happy! This also means that leafs will be changing colors, different flowers will be in season, it will get dark a lot sooner, and our calendars will be packed with exciting events for the next several months. We hope that all of you have enjoyed your summer and we hope that your fall is even more exciting!

ORKIN Pest Control
As many of you know, we have a contract with ORKIN Pest Control. They come to our community every Wednesday to take care of special request submitted by our residents. They have been coming out on Wednesday’s since we opened several years ago. Starting this month, ORKIN will come on Friday’s. We like this schedule much better because it gives you all the whole week to call in any request that you may have. If you have any questions or concerns about this, please feel free to contact our office.
Rent vs. Buying
In today's economy, with unpredictable lay offs and relocations, people are choosing to rent housing versus buying a home. Renting offers short term obligation for those people who are uncertain what their financial standing will be in the near future.
If your company decides to downsize or relocate, you will not be locked into a 30 year mortgage. Most apartment communities offer flexible lease terms and options to break a contract if something unfortunate, like a job loss, happens.
Also, with renting an apartment, you will get the convenience of onsite amenities and benefits such as fitness centers, swimming pools, business centers and 24 hour maintenance. You will never have to replace an appliance or do any home repairs. This saves time and money.
We are happy that you all have decided to rent with Abberly for at least a little while and hope that you all will stay for a long time to come!

Breezeway Pressure Washing
Our Service Team will be pressure washing breezeways in the following buildings in September. We pressure wash the breezeways and stairwells only. Patios and decks are not including in this routine cleaning.
If you would like to clean your patio or deck area, we ask that you use a broom and a damp cloth with mild cleaning solution. Please do not dump water or cleaning products on the deck if you live on the upper levels. We do not want your below neighbors to be inconvenienced with water on their belongings.
On the day that your breezeway is scheduled to be cleaned, we ask that you remove anything outside your front door that you do not want to get wet.
Also, it is a good idea to place a towel at the base of your door just inside to keep water from forming a puddle inside. Thanks to all of you for helping us keep Abberly beautiful!
